Wojciech Błażejczyk

Wojciech Błażejczyk, born in 1981, is a composer, guitarist and sound engineer. Błażejczyk leads an eclectic musical practice which, apart from chamber music, over the years has included prog rock bands, free improvisation groups and a number of productions for film, theatre and computer games. Among the key elements of his music is the frequent use of non-musical objects and the electric guitar, whose use in Blazejczyk is reminiscent of the achievements of Elliott Sharp or Glenn Branca. He earned his doctorate with his piece and thesis Civilisation Waste as Ideas and Musical Instruments in Trash Music intermedia composition (2016) at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw; he is currently an assistant professor and teaches sound design and composition basics for performers. He has won a number of awards including the Audio Engineering Society (2008), the Tadeusz Baird Competition for Young Composers (2010 and 2011), the Krzysztof Penderecki Arboretum International Composition Competition (2014) and was a finalist in the Palma Ars Acustica (2016). He has also been awarded multiple scholarships from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Keimyung Research Foundation, and participated in the IRCAM Forum Workshops in Paris. His works have been performed at many festivals abroad (New York, Toronto, Munich, Budapest) and at home (Warsaw Autumn, Musica Electronica/Polonica Nova, Poznań Musical Spring, Warsaw Musical Encounters, AudioArt) by ensembles such as the Polish Radio Orchestra, Gorzów Philharmonic, Kaliska Philharmonic, New Music Concerts Ensemble, Radom Chamber Orchestra and Kwadrofonik.
