Walk off the Earth
Walk Off the Earth is a Canadian indie pop band formed in 2006 in Burlington, Ontario. The group gained international recognition primarily through online videos in which they reinterpreted well-known songs using unconventional instruments, looping techniques, and multi-part vocal arrangements. A major breakthrough came in 2012 with their cover of Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye and Kimbra, performed by the band members together on a single guitar.
The band consists of Gianni Luminati, Sarah Blackwood, Joel Cassady, and David “Tokyo” Speirs. Their music combines elements of indie pop, pop rock, folk, and acoustic arrangements. Among their best-known songs are Red Hands, Rule the World, Gang of Rhythm, Hold On (The Break), I’ll Be There, and My Stupid Heart. In addition to their original material, the band has long been associated with cover versions of popular songs, which they regularly release on digital platforms.
Following the death of band member Mike Taylor in 2018, Walk Off the Earth continued both performing and recording, releasing the albums HERE WE GO! (2019), Meet You There (2021), and GOOD COMPANY (2025). Their most recent work includes the 2026 recordings Killing Me Softly and Enter Sandman, as well as the singles Knock ’Em Down, Afraid of Heights, Take On Me, and Our House.
