Tolstoys are a young Bratislava band that plays a mature-sounding dreampop with electronics, in addition to acoustic music. The unmistakable voice and sensible performance of singer Ely Tolstas, quickly combined with melancholy indie-pop melodies, precise rhythm section and interesting arrangements (violin, piano, and sample), quickly gained support. Five of the musicians joined together in 2016. Their singles, Agapé and Right Choice, had already drained the waters of the Slovak alternative scene in early 2017. The one and only Right Choice was held for eight weeks in the Osmčka na Rádiu FM. Positive feedback was also given to their debut album called Botanika, which they released in October 2017 on the Sun Records label. A debut that blends fragile acoustic passages, electronics, melancholy and energetic rhythms with a blend of English and Slovak lyrics, Tolstoys have been awarded the Radio Head Awards in the debut category of the year, and were nominated in the Album of the Year category.
