The City Museum of Wrocław

The City Museum of Wrocław has been in existence since 2000 and was established through the merger of three previously independent establishments: the Archaeological Museum, the Historical Museum with departments: Militaria and the Old Jewish Cemetery, and the Museum of Medallic Art. A branch of the Museum of Bourgeois Art was also created in the same year. All divisions, while retaining their autonomy in terms of content, share a common management and administration and a Museum Council. The director of the combined institutions is Dr. Maciej Łagiewski. The architectural landmarks of the City Museum—the Old Town Hall, the Royal Palace, the City Arsenal and the Old Jewish Cemetery—are well known to the citizens of Wrocław and tourists. All of them—with the exception of the Old Jewish Cemetery—are located in the heart of Wrocław, in the Market Square or on its outskirts, i.e. in the oldest part of the medieval centre. It is here that tours are made, it is here that the citizens of Wrocław stroll, and it is here that social gatherings and town celebrations are held. All the buildings of the Wroclaw City Museum are monuments of great historical, social and cultural significance for Silesia. The Museum conducts extensive scientific and educational activities and organises many temporary exhibitions, cultural events and scientific meetings.
