The 1975

The 1975 formed as a project of four inconspicuous high school students in Manchester, England in 2002. Under the name The 1975, the band first appeared in January 2012. The song The City first caught the attention of radio channel BBC Radio. They had their breakthrough in 2013 with the release of their third EP Music for Cars and the single Chocolate. The song got into the US-rochcharts and reached number 19 on the British Charts. It stayed in the top 75 for 21 weeks. Their second album * Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It* reached number 1 on the official British charts. Although generally classified as alternative rock or indie-rock, their production is influenced by a large number of different genres. Frontman Matthew Healy considers those influences to come from artists such as Talking Heads, Prince, My Bloody Valentine, Michael Jackson, Peter Gabriel, D'Angelo and Sigur Rós.
