Teatr KTO
Kraków's KTO was established in 1977 and became a municipal theatre in 2005; it has had its own building in Krakow's Podgórze district since 2021. Since its inception, its director has invariably been Jerzy Zoń, the author of the theatre's best-known projects: among the most important are the performance Operation Opera, co-produced with the Royal Opera House in Oslo to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of this unique institution, the theatrical installation Refugees, which was seen by more than 120,000 spectators during its exhibition in Leipzig on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the productions Musette et Polka, Promised Land and Visit in co-production with festivals in France, Croatia and Germany, or Cantata—a Y2K New Year's Eve spectacle broadcast by the BBC to more than 120 countries. The KTO Theatre is the organiser of the international ULICA Festival (since 1988), as well as the organiser of Kraków's artistic projects Night of theatres (since 2007) and Night of Poetry (since 2011).
