The band was founded in 1998 in Seattle, Washington. It is known for its distinctive visual style and slow, heavy sound that blends a variety of genres including doom metal, drone, black metal, dark ambient and noise rock, as well as extremely loud live performances.
Over the years, Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson have forged paths and connections between the worlds of metal, drone, new music, jazz, and minimalism with startling results, while remaining true to the eternal principles of volume, density, elasticity of time, blossoming of saturation, multiple gain stages and some of history’s greatest pure valve amplification.
