Steve Vai
The name of American guitarist Steve Vai has, over the course of his four-decade-and-running career, become synonymous with virtuosic shredding—guitar playing focused on speed and high technical skill. He began his career alongside the famous Frank Zappa, in whose band he played from 1980 to 1983; after his departure, he went solo, since then recording eight albums under his own name. His credits include collaborations with artists such as Public Image Ltd, Mary J. Blige, Spinal Tap, Alice Cooper, Motörhead, David Lee Roth, Whitesnake and Polyphia; he is also a frequent guest of the G3 concert tour, organised by his mentor Joe Satriani. In concert, Vai augments his virtuosity with an equally impressive show, full of light displays and flashy-looking guitars.
