A 90s kid himself, Santi had no idea the very artists he admired would co-sign him from the jump. And yet from Wizkid hyping his freestyle rap over Drake’s Juice, to frequent nods via Drake’s tastemaker label OVO, the signs are there that the free-wheeling, multi-genre, independent artist is on the rise. Santi’s debut album, Mandy& The Jungle is a deeply textured, flavorful body of work. On it, Santi’s unwavering allegiance to his Monster Boy crew (including producers Genio and GMK) is present. So too is a wide selection of guest features – Ghanaian R&B singer / songwriter Amaarae, South African DIY Hip-hop pundit Shane Eagle, Virginia singer / rapper DRAM, and DMV-hailing Goldlink make organic and sincere appearances. The follow-up to Suzie’s Funeral, which carries the cult classic Gangsta Fear featuring frequent collaborator Odunsi, never strays from what makes Santi, Santi. An ode to his influences, to the oddities, the complex and simple, to storytelling, to life.
