Rootz Underground, a reggae star from Jamaica, will play in the Old Monastery. Their music escapes easy assignment to one genre. The sound of Rootz Underground is easy to find not only classic roots reggae, but also elements of rock, jazz, hip-hop or modern dub. Skillfully combining musical vibrations with a conscious, socially engaged message, they have come a long way from small Jamaican clubs to the biggest reggae scenes in Jamaica and almost all over the world. In their homeland they have repeatedly performed on the most prestigious stages of such festivals as Sunsplash, Rebel Salute, Welcome to Jamrock, Reggaelution, and Sumfest and Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues. The band's debut album Movement (2008) was very well received by fans and critics, which allowed them to start their career in Europe (first performance in 2009) and North America. Rootz Underground played at Summerjam, Reggae Sunska and Roskilde festivals. Their position was strengthened by the album Gravity released in 2010, containing such hits as Unknown Soldier or Power To The People. Rootz Underground shared the scene with many reggae stars, the most famous of whom are Gregory Isaacs, Stephen Marley, Ziggy Marley, Israel Vibration, The Wailing Souls, Alpha Blondy, Toots and The Maytals and Dean Fraser, Anthony B and Tarrus Riley.
