Ricardo Tobar
Republic will welcome the Border Community member RICARDO TOBAR. Tobar’s musical journey took him from the small seaside town Viňa del Mar close to the capital Santiago straight to Paris. After two acclaimed 12 inches on Border Community, James Holden's label (the beautiful El Sunset in 2007 & Boy Love Girl in 2008) followed EP's on labels such as Traum or Knopje. In October 2013, Ricardo released his latest album called “Treillis” under London-based Desire Records.
Ricardo's own influences come from a less predictable place, joining the unlikely dots between Goa trance, melodic techno and the UK shoegaze movement. Combining this with his own overriding love of melody has given birth to Ricardo's own sound: sometimes warm and fuzzy, sometimes devastating on the dancefloor, and always intensely musical. Like his Border Community labelmates, Ricardo is a firm believer in the “You don't need money to make good music” school of music production.
