Prague Cello Quartet

The Prague Cello Quartet made its debut in the autumn of 2006 in Prague at Žofín Palace, where it performed for several hundred listeners. The unexpectedly great success motivated the members to continue their work. Each of the ensemble's players also became an arranger, as a minimum of repertoire was composed for this unique group, currently the only professional one in the Czech Republic. The advantage in arranging the pieces is the possibilities of the cello, whose range is very close to the human voice and covers both the bass range and the high violin positions.

Today these cellists are mostly students of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. Their repertoire, created both from each member's favourite pieces and at the request of various audiences or on occasions, includes music from almost every modern movement, from jazz to film to metal, as well as arrangements of works by the great classical composers. The main driving force behind this quartet is "the need to create, and to do so in an original, immediate, joyful and high-quality way", as evidenced by the many prizes each member has won at international competitions.

In 2022, after several changes in personnel, the Prague Cello Quartet begins performing again. One cello has been replaced by a double bass, but the whole project has been given a new dimension.
