MUKKA

The music group MUKKA originates from Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland. It was founded in 2017 by musicians Guðmundur Óskar Sigurmundsson and Kristjón Hjaltested. Initially performing as a duo, the group gradually expanded to include additional members — Þorleifur Sigurlásson, Gunnar Steingrímsson, and Eyþór Eyjólfsson. The visual component of the band’s live performances is created by Anton Borosak.

The band’s work is characterized by a combination of lo-fi rhythms, repetitive bass lines, and synthetic sounds, which together form its distinctive sonic expression. The music is often classified as kraut pop and is also used in theatre and film projects.

MUKKA releases its albums as part of a unified series titled Study Series. The first release, Study Fun Nr. 1 (2018), was followed by Study You Nr. 2 (2020), Study Me Nr. 3 (2023), and Study More Nr. 4 (2024). Each album has been released both digitally and on vinyl through Icelandic record labels.

Since 2023, the group has been active in live performance. It plays mainly within the Icelandic music scene, including venues such as Harpa and IÐNÓ in Reykjavík, and has also appeared on European stages, for example at Loppen in Copenhagen. In the summer of 2025, MUKKA presented its fourth studio album live at a concert in Reykjavík.

The musical career of MUKKA is defined by a consistent conceptual approach, regular release activity, and the integration of musical and visual elements, forming a coherent artistic project.
