Marek Kimei Matvija
Marek Kimei Matvija is a master of the Japanese bamboo flute shakuhachi. He studies Japanese traditional music under the tutelage of Mitsuhashi Kifu, who awarded him the master's degree. Marek thus became the first Czech ever to achieve this recognition.
In addition to Japanese music, Marek also has a great passion for improvised and contemporary music and is a member of the Topos Collective, which creates music for a specific place and space. He is also the director and one of the founders of the International Shakuhachi Festival Prague and a founding member of the Neiro Association for Expanding Arts. Marek Matvija graduated from FAMU in Prague and has performed across the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Portugal, Netherlands Hungary, USA and Japan.
