Hackescher Markt is a public square in the center of Berlin, between Friedrichstraße and Alexanderplatz. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, a comprehensive redevelopment of the area around Hackescher Markt began, as many old buildings fell into disrepair and more and more gaps between buildings appeared. Starting in the early 1990s, many artists, designers and workshops settled in the dilapidated buildings and unleashed their creative potential in Berlin-Mitte.
