Galeria Foto-Gen

The Foto-Gen Gallery is a branch of the Wrocław Culture and Arts Centre—a cultural institution of the Lower Silesian Voivodship local government. It is located in the historic House of the Trzebnica Maidens, the oldest residential building in Wrocław—dating from 1208—which was originally the residence of the Trzebnica Cistercians. The exhibition area comprises three rooms: the oldest—Romanesque, Gothic and the contemporary part. It is located in the city centre, near the Market Square and Ostrów Tumski. It is the largest gallery in Lower Silesia dealing with photography in the broad sense of the word. It presents both photography sensu stricto and art for which photography is a material or an inspiration. Its activities are in keeping with the tradition of galleries that have operated in this location since the early 1970s: Wrocław Photography Gallery, the legendary Foto-Medium-Art and the Lower Silesian Photography Centre Domek Romański.

The gallery presents both photography sensu stricto and realisations that are part of the photomedia art current, which is reflected in exhibitions of works by respected representatives of the main trends in artistic photography and photomedia experimentation. It exhibits formally diverse—interesting works by young artists who have not previously appeared in the exhibition space, as well as the achievements of artists who have made a permanent mark in the history of the art of photography. The exhibition strategy of the Foto-Gen Gallery includes participation in artistic undertakings of a national and international character.
