Expozice k dějinám Opavy – Cesta města
The permanent exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the history of the city of Opava from prehistoric times to the second half of the 20th century using selected exhibits. Not only historical and archaeological artefacts, but also important works of art are presented here. Before the tour itself, it is recommended watching the animated film Obživlá Opava (up to 20 minutes), which is also suitable for children. Part of the tour is an interactive model of the city in 1800, realized by the staff of the National Monuments Institute, which provides an overview of the stories of about twenty buildings in the city, some of which no longer exist.

This year, Opava commemorates 800 years since the issuance of the royal privilege, in which it is designated as a city for the first time. Due to the small number of written reports from the first decades of its existence, archaeological sources are extremely important for learning about the beginnings of Opava. The exhibition will offer the opportunity to view unique finds dating back to the first half of the 13th century, i.e. to the time of the city's founding, on loan from the collections of the National Monuments Institute, ú. o. p. in Ostrava. For a limited time, the original of the oldest extant deed for Opava from 1247 will also be lent from the State District Archives in Opava, as well as a copier from the 18th century, which preserves a transcript confirming Opava's city rights from 1224. The personalities who sought to know the oldest the history of the city in the past they deserved. Part of the exhibition will be a visualization of the town and the residential house of the first Opava buyers. Those interested will certainly be pleased with a short introductory film and examples of replicas of period clothing and footwear. The exhibition is complemented by a number of interactive and didactic elements intended not only for children. Visitors will get the necessary information mainly through video reports with the authors of the exhibition.
