Ellen Allien
Ellen Allien, born Ellen Fraatz in 1968, is a Berlin-based techno and electro DJ, music producer, promoter and label owner of BPitch Control. Ellen Allien first came into contact with electronic music during a one-year stay in London in 1988. When she returned to Germany, the techno wave began there.
From 1991, she worked as a DJ at Berlin's Fischlabor and became interested in this work. She became a resident DJ there and a year later was spinning at the Berlin clubs Bunker, Tresor and E-Werk. In 1993 she had her own show at the radio station Kiss FM and in 1995 she founded her own record label called Braincandy. She abandoned the Braincandy label after the closure of E-Werk in 1997 and continued it under the name BPitch Control Records in 1999. The first release on BPitch Control took place with the album Stadtkind in 2001. Music by Sascha Funke, Paul Kalkbrenner and Toktok subsequently made this label known worldwide.
