Cristina Branco
Cristina Branco (*1972, Almeirim) is one of the most important Portuguese artists of the last decades and a tireless ambassador of Portuguese culture in the world. Her albums number close to two dozen. Cristina Branco's singing and music are rooted in traditional music and fado, which her grandfather introduced to her as a little girl when he played Amalia Rodrigues' recordings. But jazz and literature have also had a great influence on her. She studied poetry, for example, and especially the works of the poets on whom the fado lyricists were based. And of course she uses the distinctive input of the top musicians she chooses to collaborate with. This includes the acclaimed pianist and composer João Paulo Esteves da Silva, who also wrote most of the songs for the album Amoras numa Tarde de Outono (2022). However, he already contributed to Cristina's second album Post Scriptum (2000), played as a member of the band on her album Fado / Tango (2011) and of course often accompanies the singer in concerts.
