Batushka
The black metal outfit Batushka formed in 2015 and, over the course of a few years, became one of the most reputable exports of Polish metal, making a name for themselves with concerts referencing the Orthodox mass and a sound that draws on elements of liturgical music; their debut album Litourgiya (2015) has become a canonical position of contemporary black metal. However, as befits a band drawing handfuls from the Orthodox tradition, there was a major schism in Batushka in 2018; after a lengthy and publicized legal battle, a band led by vocalist Bartlomiej Krysiuk currently performs under the name Batushka, while founder Krzysztof Drabikowski leads Krzysztof Drabikowski's Батюшка. After the dispute, Krysiuk's Batushka debuted in 2019 with the Metal Blade-released album Hospodi; their discography is supplemented by several EPs and live releases.
