After it was founded, the BadBadNotGood trio began recording instrumental jazz versions of hip-hop pieces, using musicians such as J Dilla, Nas and Kanye West in the catalog. With these cover versions they recorded their debut album BBNG in 2011, which was released by download. In 2014 BadBadNotGood released their first album III, which consisted exclusively of their own compositions. The work was consistently received positively by the critics. The follow-up album Sour Soul was created in 2015 in collaboration with Ghostface Killah.
