Árstíðir
Árstíðir is an Icelandic music group founded in Reykjavík in 2008. It was originally formed as a trio consisting of Daníel Auðunsson, Gunnar Már Jakobsson, and Ragnar Ólafsson. Over time, other musicians playing string instruments and piano joined them. The group’s repertoire draws from elements of folk, classical music, chamber pop, and indie, and is characterized by the use of acoustic instruments and vocal harmonies.
Their debut album, Árstíðir, was released in 2009, followed by Svefns og vöku skil (2011), Hvel (2015), Verloren Verleden (2016), Nivalis (2018), Garðurinn minn (2018), Pendúll (2021), and Blik (2023). In addition to studio albums, the group has also released live and acoustic recordings. In 2013, they gained international attention for an impromptu performance at a train station in Germany, where they sang the Icelandic song Heyr himna smiður.
Árstíðir regularly perform mainly in European countries, often in intimate venues, churches, and historic buildings. Some of their projects are funded through crowdfunding. The group operates under its own Icelandic label, Nivalis, and collaborates with other partners for international distribution. The current members are Daníel Auðunsson, Gunnar Már Jakobsson, and Ragnar Ólafsson.
