The Botanical Garden of Wrocław University, called an oasis of beauty and tranquillity in the heart of the city, is a "living museum" and a scientific and didactic centre, as well as a favourite leisure spot for Wrocław citizens. It is situated on the northern side of St John the Baptist Cathedral and St Cross Church, partly within the historical Cathedral Island, about 2 km from the Market Square. It is the second oldest garden of this type in Poland (after the Kraków garden), included in the list of monuments of the Lower Silesian Voivodship and located within the borders of the historic centre of Wrocław, which is subject to special protection.
