He is considered one of the most recognizable artists on the world music scene, legendary drummer, undisputed king of modern African rhythm and co-creator of afrobeat and afrofunk. Brian Eno called him "perhaps the greatest drummer who has ever lived". For many years he was a supporter of Fela Kuti's bands - together they revolutionized the musical image of Africa of the 1970s. The list of recordings in which he took part exceeds a hundred. He has made countless releases with other artists and by himself.
