The Messthetics
American instrumental trio, operating on the border of punk rock, jazz and improvised music, associated with the famous, commanded by Ian MacKaye, label Dischord Records. The Messthetics brought to life the musicians of the legendary Fugazi band - bass player Joe Lally and drummer Brendan Canty to the company with guitarist Anthony Pirog (known, among others, from cooperation with John Zorn and his Tzadik Records). Their style is sometimes referred to as "jazz punk jam" and it quite well reflects the character of this formation. On the one hand, The Messthetics perfectly fit into the long, rich tradition of the Washington DC independent scene, based on such trends as punk, hard core and noise. On the other hand, they are able to combine this energy in an interesting way with interesting, complex and multi-layered arrangements, creating a very interesting inter-species mix.
