The 1975
The 1975 formed as a project of four inconspicuous high school students in Manchester, England. Under the name The 1975, the band first appeared in January 2012, and since then, they have had one success after another. From an almost unknown band, they climbed to the top of the charts. The Guardian said, "Their songs are ridiculously catchy ... They'll be heard everywhere this year." Despite such a quick rise to the top, they are really passionate and true to their music.
Although generally classified as alternative rock or indie-rock, their production is influenced by a large number of different genres. Frontman Matthew Healy considers those influences to come from artists such as Talking Heads, Prince, My Bloody Valentine, Michael Jackson, Peter Gabriel, D'Angelo and Sigur Rós.
