In 1986 her debut album Women Hold Up Half the Sky_ got released, which received good reviews and was commercially successful. The highest chart placement of all albums by Ruby Turner reached The Motown Songbook (1988 UK number 22). The single It’s Gonna Be Alright from the album Paradise (1989) even made it to number one on the US R'n'B charts in 1990.
