Roman Britschgi Quartett
Jazz, Rozšírená realita | Born in central Switzerland and living in Vienna, the Vienna-based sculptor, composer and bass guitarist has created a refreshing set of works from Jewish and Turkish music, performed by a chamber quartet. Roman Britschga's quartet crosses the line where bands such as Samech, Kolsimcha and John Zorn's string trio have stayed with their Masada cycle and creatively combines many musical traditions in fresh, stunning works. Notions (Lotus Records/Harmonia Mundi), the quartet's first album, is a suggestive cycle of songs based on texts selected from 2,000 pages of biographical notes by Ernst F. Brod, who as a Jew and socialist had to flee Austria in 1938, first emigrated to Turkey and then to the USA in 1947. His mother and brother remained in Austria: they were deprived of their property, deported to a camp and murdered. Notions_ is a record about a man who, despite all the adversities he encountered in National Socialist Austria, managed to retain the ability to think critically and the will power that allowed him to be guided by his own mind and feelings.
