Rodopi Ensemble

The group performs the music of Thrace, a unique Greek land, a place at the crossroads of the musical cultures of north, south, east and west. The ancient kingdom of Thrace is home to ancient heroes and gods and is particularly well known as the place from which the cult of Dionysus, the god of wine, fertility and pleasure, came. Places associated with the cult of Dionysus have very rich musical traditions developed over thousands of years. Rodopi cultivates and passes on these traditions to younger generations. It is one of the longest running musical ensembles in the region of Thrace and has participated in events and festivals for many years. The musicians of Rodopi have inherited a musical tradition from their grandparents, parents and older continuators and transmitters of this tradition. This tradition consists of various traditional styles such as xasapiko, tsifteteli, karsilamas or zeibekiko.
