Princess Nokia
Princess Nokia is a project created by Destiny Ortiz and Christopher Lare'a. The two artists have set themselves the goal of exploring new areas of contemporary music inpired by the culture of rave, drum'n'bass and all that is happening in the underground environment of New York City and the UK.
Destiny Nicole Frasqueri, born June 14 1992, is an Afro-Nuyorican hip-hop and R&B musician from New York who also performed under the names Wavy Spive and Destiny. Furthermore, she works together with the New York hip-hop group Ratking. She is considered as a representative of the young genre queer rap.
Since 2012, Frasqueri has been performing in the New York underground and on YouTube under the pseudonym Wavy Spice and has produced club tracks such as Versace Hottie and Bitch, I'm Posh. In 2015, she released the R&B-heavy album Honeysuckle under the name Destiny. In September 2016, she released the EP 1992 as Princess Nokia, named after her year of birth. In her songs Frasqueri, who characterizes herself as old school, thematizes her mixed-race origin and queer topics.
