Praying Mantis

The band was founded in 1973 by the brothers Tino and Chris Troy. In 1981 they released their first studio album Time Tells No Lies, which permanently entered the canon of New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Another album, Throwing Shapes, released by the Troy brothers under the name Stratus together with the vocalist Bernie Shaw (who has been the voice of Uriah Heep for over 30 years), as well as drummer Clive Burr (who played on the first, legendary Iron Maiden album). With this album, the musicians began to move away from the NWOBHM trend, heading towards melodic rock, but the common denominator and recognizable feature of the group to this day are double, harmonious guitar parts, initiated in the 70s by bands such as Wishbone Ash and Thin Lizzy, as well as characteristic parts of supporting vocals reminiscent of Uriah Heep or the Wishbone Ash mentioned above. It is also worth adding that from 1990 to 2003 the second lead guitarist in Praying Mantis was Dennis Stratton, who, like Clive Burr, played on the debut of Iron Maiden. In addition, in 1995, Gary Barden, the legendary voice of the Michael Schenker Group, joined the band. The result of this collaboration is the thin studio album "To the Power of Ten" and the great concert album Captured Alive In Tokyo City, which was also released in video format. Praying Mantis as one of the few bands derived from the NWOBHM trend to this day regularly publishes albums and gives concerts, having 11 studio albums.
