Marilyn Mazur

Marilyn Mazur is one of the few women in the pantheon of world jazz celebrities. As a composer, pianist and leader of many ensembles she is the highlight of festivals around the world. She is of African-American and Polish descent. Known for her recordings and concerts in the bands of such celebrities as Miles Davis, Gil Evans, Wayne Shorter, Andreas Vollenweider or Jan Garbarek. The greatest fame and recognition came from her collaboration with jazz greats, especially Miles Davis himself. She was a percussionist in his group in 1985, 1988 and 1989. In 1986 she became the drummer in the famous Gil Evans' orchestra. The following year she embarked on a world tour with the Wayne Shorter Quintet. In 1989, she began pursuing her dream project Future Song, which she had fantasized about while touring with Davis. In 1991 she began a collaboration with Jan Garbarek that continues to this day. Her work is truly rich and inspiring. In 2019 she released the album Shamania, featuring an orchestra of 10 strong Scandinavian female musical personalities.
