Maria Emília

Maria Emilia was born in Sao Paulo. Her grandfather, instead of teaching his son bosses and samba, gave the boy a Portuguese guitar and inspired him to love music from the alleys of Lisbon, and when the boy became a man, he passed on his fascination to his daughter. More: After several years of playing music together in his hometown's clubs, he took Maria to Portugal. Although she began studying psychology there, she soon came to the conclusion that she preferred to soothe human souls with music rather than with a conversation by the couch in her office. That was a decade ago when the head of the legendary Clube de Fado, the great Mario Pacheco, took her under his wing. But it took years for her to mature into her first album. The Casa de Fado album turned out to be a breakthrough success in 2018 and the usually hermetic environment of traditional fado accepted Brazilian woman into its circle and considered her one of the most interesting young voices of the contemporary scene.
