Kirszenbaum

Kirszenbaum is like Wyspiański on mephedrone. The Krakow duo revive the post-folk ruins, give them fresh directions and throw them straight onto loopers, juxtaposing Tom Waits and Junip with a Slavic twist. Zola shouts klezmer, Henry Miller dances with the Mummies, and the result is a melancholic intertextual carousel. Kierkegaard wrote of them: It's probably jazz. Nothing could be further from the truth. Kirszenbaum is a joint venture of Kacper Szpyrka (philosopher, bookseller and violinist, who recorded, among others, with HellHaven) and Jakub Wiśniewski (English teacher, musician and techwriter), whose previous collaboration in the band Pora Wiatru resulted in over 150 concerts, an appearance in the finals of the programme Must Be the Music, the main award of the Polish edition of Emergenza Festival.

After their well-received debut entitled Stypa komedianta, Kacper Szpyrka and Jakub Wiśniewski have prepared for their fans (and not only) an album entitled Się. Się is the result of nocturnal escapades through Madre de Dios and bushwalking in the bottomless museums of Vienna. However, Ayahuasca is drunk by Dmitri Karamazov, Batman is saved by the Motomys from Mars, and all the saints of pop culture are lost in a dark whirl of loops, where violins resound with the bad news about the elusiveness of time. It is impossible to find here post-rock, electronica or folk. But you will find everything in between. As Héctor Villa-Lobos used to say: "Folklore is me".
