K.Flay

Kristine Meredith Flaherty, who performs under the stage name K.Flay, came to attention in 2004 when she grabbed the mic at university and released her debut mixtape Suburban Rap Queen, parodying the crude and misogynistic lyrics prevalent in mainstream rap at the time. She then took a turn towards electro and indie sounds, releasing a whole series of mixtapes and EPs. In 2013, she released two mini-albums: Eyes Shut featuring two tracks produced by Liam Howlett (The Prodigy), and What If It Is with a guest appearance by Danny Brown. After this adventure, however, she decided to release her first full-length CD on her own, with crowdfunding support from her fans. This turned out to be a good decision, as the campaign exceeded expectations, with Life as a Dog hitting the Billboard Top 200, and resulted in tours across the US and Europe, including support slots in front of Dashboard Confessional or Awolnation. In 2016, she joined the Night Street label, run by Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons, where she released the EP Crush Me. This was soon followed by two Grammy nominations: for best album Every Where Is Some Where and for best rock song Blood in the Cut. The single made it to the soundtrack of the third instalment of the film XXX, as well as the TV series Peaky Blinders and Bojack Horseman. Her latest album Inside Voices / Outside Voices was released in 2022, with guest appearances from Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and Travis Barker of Blink-182.
