Katy Perry, whose real name is Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, is an American pop singer and songwriter. She became known in 2008 with her singles I Kissed a Girl and Hot n Cold, selling more than 126 million records worldwide, as well as over 72 million download singles.
As the daughter of a pastor, Hudson began to sing in a gospel choir at an early age. Later she became a big fan of the British rock band, Queen. Her first studio album Katy Hudson, released under the label Red Hill in 2001, was commercially unsuccessful. After Hudson changed her stage name to Katy Perry, and produced her first album with the label Capitol Records, in 2008, she suddenly came into the public eye.
Since then, Perry has produced four more studio albums at Capitol Records and has firmly established herself as a pop music and culture icon.
