Interrobang?!
Interrobang?! is Dunstan Bruce and Harry Hamer of anarcho-pop cabaret troupe Chumbawamba and Stephen Griffin - former guitarist of London rock/electronic band Regular Fries. The band formed in 2012 with a vision and a desire to create something that would appeal to a generation that grew up in the shadow of punk. Interrobang?! wanted to recall the hopes and dreams that the rebellion was filled with. The artists also wanted to find out: how does the post-punk generation express its anger now? The musicians rejected the idea of cloying nostalgia. They don't want to live in the past, they don't want to look back. What they are interested in is moving forward, constantly moving forward.
The band has created its own style, dubbed agit-punk-funkstorm. It is angular, tense, focused, pulsating and intense. It is also concise and always on point. The artists aim to bare the souls of their listeners, and this is aided by music that is meant to shake, to shake aging bones, and is also meant to send the listener off to carefree fun on the dance floor. This music is frantic, twisted, quirky, powerful pop that hums like a fridge. The lyrics of Interrobang?! are inspired by the breakthrough that every person reaches at the age of 50. It's not just a platitude: 'mid-life crisis', but something deeper, something brutally honest.
