Imperial Wax

Punk, Alternatíva/Indie | The band Imperial Wax recorded six studio albums and two EPs, together with Mark E. Smith under the name The Fall. The band around the charismatic frontman had a frequently changing band line-up in the course of their history. However, their final formation was also the longest-running cast of the legendary post-punk band from Manchester.

After Smith's death in 2018, the band, consisting of drummer Keiron Melling, bassist Dave Spurr and guitarist Pete Greenway, received a range of offerings to perform as The Fall with guest vocalists. But they declined and decided to form the new project Imperial Wax – named after the first album recorded with Smith Imperial Wax Solvent.

In May 2019, the band's debut album Gastwerk Saboteurs was released, featuring Mat Arnold (Noisettes, The Coral, Peter Gabriel, The Fall) as the producer. Furthermore, Sam Curran joined as singer and second guitarist for the project. Together, they first worked on the compositions of the record and then focused on the lyrics and vocals. The band had handled it the same way in the days of The Fall – it seemed like the most logical thing to do.

Imperial Wax, with Gastwerk Saboteurs, once again captured the raw energy of The Fall, without emulating older works. Soundwise, their musical epicenter is between indie, post-punk and melodic punk. The debut album of Imperial Wax is both a wonderful conclusion as well as a promising new beginning.
