Galerie Mitte
The Galerie Mitte in Dresden was founded in 1979. Under the direction of Gabriele Muschter, a district gallery with great charisma developed in the region. The gallery owner left for Berlin in 1984 to write her doctoral thesis on photography at the Humboldt University. Karin Weber took over the gallery as a young scientist and began her service on August 20, 1984. Her courageous commitment to Dresden artists and their art should pay off later.
She started the exhibition activity with an experiment: on September 4, 1986 she opened the exhibition Structure-Figure-Space with an artistic dialogue between Andreas Dress, Claus Weidensdorfer and Thea Richter in the gallery space, in which they covered large sheets of paper with a network of pulsating lines and installed life-size plaster figures in it. In the spring of 1987 Eva Anderson, Angela Hampel, Ulrike Rösner and Gudrun Trendafilov set up a room installation (innen / Außen) that heralded the birth of the Dresden Secession in 1989 (the Dresden Artists' Association).
After an interim phase at the Concetto agency, Karin Weber registered the trade as a Gallery with an artistic focus on April 1, 1994. Since then she has hosted around 245 exhibitions in the gallery center. The anniversary exhibition features 150 works of art, including oil and acrylic paintings, mixed media, watercolors, prints, collages, assemblages, sculptures, sculptures and photographs in all genres by 71 artists who have made a name for themselves in Dresden and beyond.
