Divide and Dissolve
Divide and Dissolve is an instrumental doom metal band based in Melbourne, Australia, comprising saxophonist and guitarist Takiaya Reed (who is Tsalagi, one of the indigenous peoples of the Southeastern woodlands of the United States) and Māori percussionist Sylvie Nehill. Utilising drums, guitar, saxophone and live effects, Reed and Nehill say the heaviness in their music comes from their ancestors – their output is themed around the genocidal legacy of colonisation. Divide and Dissolve became widely recognised after their 2018 music video for Resistance was removed from YouTube following outrage from far-right politicians and media outlets; they've released four studio albums, the latest of which is 2023's Systemic.
