The revue theater, that queer mixture of operetta, modern boulevard, political cabaret, jazz and new music was the genre that shaped the image of the "Golden Twenties" in Berlin like no other. But this high early-modern entertainment art was a victim to the Nazis and their anti-Semitic homophobic hatred. The artists had to emigrate, their works disappeared and with them the genre itself.

Now one of these works is being revived at the Gorki, 86 years after its premiere in 1931. Alles Schwindel is a real rediscovery. What begins as a classic boy-meets-girl story becomes a lunatic course through the illusory worlds of the late twenties.

Christian Weise has a lot of fun as a director on such materials, he already directed the operetta Wie werde ich reich und glücklich by Spoliansky. He throws himself into the whirlpool of a great Berlin period with the Gorki Ensemble, which, in its flickering, but also in its threatening fragility, has politically and hedonistically delicate similarities to the city as it is to be experienced today.

A fast-paced costume, music and dance evening with songs that stay in the ear and a confusingly current story. The performance will provide English subtitles.
