Asher Gamedze
Asher Gamedze is a South African percussionist and composer based in Cape Town. His music is a fusion of diverse musical traditions from southern Africa, free improvisation, jazz and radical social and political thought. In 2020, he released his debut album entitled Dialectic Soul. It was named one of the best jazz albums of the year in many major media outlets, including The New York Times. His latest material, Turbulence and Pulse, released in 2023 through a special collaboration between International Anthem, and Mushroom Hour Half Hour, allows him to revisit his roots and the political and historical issues raised on Dialectic Soul, giving them new meaning.
