Afra
Amsterdam-based Afra started buying and playing records when she was 16 years old. It was in the beginning of the 2000s when Afra fell in love with the music of artists like Miss Kittin, The Hacker or DJ Hell and his label International Deejay Gigolo Records. Soon, she was playing their records in front of crowds at various clubs and festivals around Amsterdam.
Then, she decided to take a break from DJing out of political reasons and because of the pressure of the authorities and became a successful jewelry designer. As she really missed DJing, she decided to start again a couple of years ago. In 2018, she extensively enlarged her record collection and played numerous gigs around Amsterdam and Rotterdam. With the beginning of 2019, she became a resident of the club Spielraum and began hosting her own event at Melkweg.
Afra's sound is dark and danceable at the same time, mixing old Detroit electro and techno records with some booty, trance, rave and new discoveries, fusing different musical scapes into an energetic entity.
