Lecture Series on Contemporary Art.

How to find a way to understand contemporary art? In this lecture series curators, artists and professionals from various areas will introduce the crossovers of contemporary art and other subjects and will help participants to uncover the important role of art in everyday life.

Art & Technology:
The first series of ten lectures is related to the relationship of art, science and technology, which is strongly present in both opening exhibitions of Kunsthalle Praha – Kinetismus: 100 Years of Electricity in Art and Zenger Transformer Station. Among the topics are among others the development of neon light in public space, contemporary inspirations of the groundbreaking kinetic work of Zdeněk Pešánek, history of sound art, ethics of modern technologies and digital ownership of art. Confirmed guests-lecturers include Vendula Hnídková (On the Origin of the Electric Nation), Milan Guštar (Electricity in Art), Anna Kvíčalová (Sound Art), Tomáš Hříbek (Ethics of New Technologies), David Kořínek (New Media Art and its Transformation into Post-Internet Art), Eva Bendová (Architecture, Neon lights and Advertising) or Christelle Havranek (Chief Curator at Kunsthalle Praha).

Practical Information:

  • Ten lectures take place every Monday at 7:15 pm from 11 April to 20 June, 2022. Easter Monday on April 18 will be skipped.
  • The lectures take place at Kunsthalle Praha Bistro, where it will be possible to buy snacks.
  • Members of Kunsthalle Praha have a 10% discount.
  • The price of the course includes ten lectures of 60 to 90 minutes, the opportunity to visit the Kunsthalle exhibitions before the start of each lecture, several guided tours, a tour of the Electric Companies on Vltavská with architect Mark Tichý and a notebook with a pencil from Kunsthalle.

About TransformArt:
Lecture series TransformArt takes place twice a year in winter and summer term. One series will include ten lectures, which thematically relate to current exhibitions of Kunsthalle Praha and will introduce them in a wider context of everyday life and/or other non-artistic areas. One or two lecturers will lead each lecture and show an interesting path toward understanding contemporary art.
