On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Bauhaus in 2019, the Bauhaus Archive-Museum of Design (Bauhaus-Archiv – Museum für Gestaltung) in Berlin will be renovated and extended by an additional building. During this time, all activities will be relocated to the Temporary Bauhaus-Archive.
The Temporary is located in the listed Hardenberg building, which was built in 1955/1956 by the architect Paul Schwebes and is considered one of the most important office and commercial buildings of the post-war modernism of West Berlin. Here, the Temporary offers discursive events, film and book presentations as well as interventions in the exhibition space and numerous activities for families.
The Bauhaus Archive–Museum of Design studies and presents the history and influence of the Bauhaus (1919-1933), the twentieth century’s most important college of architecture, design and art – and over the course of the decades it has built up the world’s largest collection of materials on the subject.
