The B-52s
The B-52s are an American rock band from Athens, Georgia, which were formed in 1976 by the students Kate Pierson (vocals, guitar, keyboard), Cindy Wilson (vocals, guitar, bongos), her brother Ricky Wilson (guitar), Fred Schneider (vocals, keyboards) and Keith Strickland (drums, Guitar) founded. Except for Ricky Wilson, who died in 1985, the band occurs to date in this constellation and under its original name. B-2B is derived from a southern state nickname for the high-styled and then hair-sprayed Beehive hairstyles of the two singers. The B-2Bs played always an idiosyncratic mix of rock 'n' roll, punk and funk that was especially prized by followers of the American student movement and by New Wave fans. The often shrill, often melodic vocals of the two singers, comic lyrics and rocking guitar alongside some science-fiction sticking keyboard melodies are the hallmark of the B-52's. Many of their covers are typical of the New Wave. The B-52s were a style-forming group that established Athens' reputation as the center of alternative rock. Ever since the B-52's, the University of Georgia has brought back well-known bands such as R.E.M. out. By combining rock and roll with the New Wave, they still exert a great influence on music groups. The band released a total of eleven studio albums, the latter appeared under the title Live in the UK 2013 in 2013.
