Sportmuseum Berlin
The Berlin Sports Museum, with its two locations in Westend (Olympiapark) and in Grünau (Wassersportmuseum), has the most extensive and diverse sports collection in Germany: more than 100,000 objects, a photo collection with about 1.5 million images, and a library containing about 37,000 volumes of sports history literature spanning three centuries. The museum is currently being fundamentally redesigned for future presentation. It emerged from the Berlin Sports History Cabinet, the Collection Center Central Sports Museum of the GDR and the West Berlin Forum for Sports History.
In the House of German Sports, the museum shows changing touring and special exhibitions on various topics of Berlin-Brandenburg, national and international sports history. The museum offers guided tours of the exhibitions, project days for school classes, tours of the depot and guided tours of the Olympiapark Berlin with its facilities and buildings of sporting, architectural and art historical interest.
Since autumn 2022, the Berlin Sports Museum has been offering guided tours of the Olympic grounds. It is about the historical past of the site from the early 20th century until today. Thematically, the focus is on the 1936 Olympic Games and the historical breaks and continuities that can be observed from this event
The museum is closed until 2024 due to a fundamental redesign and associated renovation work. Research in the library, photo library, or archive, as well as inquiries about the collection and outgoing and incoming loans, will continue to be possible by prior written or telephone arrangement. Special events will also continue to take place.
