Portugal. The Man
Portugal. The Man is an American rock band formed in 2004 in Wasilla, Alaska. The founding members were John Gourley and Zachary Carothers, who had previously played in the band Anatomy of a Ghost. After its formation, the group relocated to Portland, Oregon, where they began actively recording and performing.
Their debut album, Waiter: "You Vultures!", was released in 2006 on the Fearless Records label. It was followed by Church Mouth (2007), Censored Colors (2008), The Satanic Satanist (2009), and American Ghetto (2010). In 2010, Portugal. The Man signed with Atlantic Records, releasing In the Mountain in the Cloud in 2011. Two years later, they released Evil Friends, produced by Danger Mouse. In 2017, they released the album Woodstock, which included the single Feel It Still. The song reached number four on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart and became the band’s most successful single. To date, Portugal. The Man have released nine studio albums, four EPs, and a number of standalone singles. In 2023, they introduced the album Chris Black Changed My Life, dedicated to a late friend of the band.
In addition to their musical work, the group is also active in the field of social responsibility. In 2020, they founded the PTM Foundation, focused on supporting human rights, community health, environmental issues, and Indigenous peoples. The band has collaborated with organizations such as the National Coalition Against Censorship, The Skatepark Project, and March for Our Lives.
