Marc Minkowski

Marc Minkowski, born 1962 in Paris, is a French conductor and bassoonist.

The son of a professor of pediatrics and grandson of the famous psychiatrist Eugène Minkowski learned to play the French and the German bassoon in his youth. Parallel he started to learn playing the baroque bassoon. Marc Minkowski joines several music ensembles which pursue the historical performance practice, such as Les Arts Florissants (William Christie), La Grande Écurie et la Chambre du Roy (Jean-Claude Malgoire), dem Clemencic Consort (René Clemencic) und La Chapelle Royale (Philippe Herreweghe).

Minkowski strove to perform and record unknown baroque compositions on CD especially in the beginning of his career. In 1982 Minkowski formed Les Musiciens du Louvre, an orchestra dedicated to showcasing French Baroque music. His interpretations of the works of Christoph Willibald Gluck, Jean-Philippe Rameau, Claudio Monteverdi, Jean-Baptiste Lully and Georg Friedrich Händel are outstanding.

The romantic repertoire and regular guest conductions take another important place in Minkowski's work. He was guest conductor at the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Mozarteum Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Warsaw Opera or at the Brussels Opera La Monnaie an also guest conductor at the Zürich Opera House.
