Khadija
Khadija is an artist, musician, writer, producer and DJ living in Berlin. She was born in 1990 in Pforzheim, Germany, in a Muslim family of Eritrean origin. She grew up surrounded by culture, tradition and music, listening to artists like Michael Jackson, Aaliyah or the German girl band Tic Tac Toe as well as Eritrean music (e.g. Alamin Abdeletif, Dehab Faytinga, Yemane Baria), which was mainly about the liberation of the country or the suffering of the people during the 30-year war between Eritrea and Ethiopia. Thus, for Khadija, music has always been a reflection of society.
Khadija's sound is boundless, fusing countless cultural and creative impulses into an emotionally compelling whole that she presents in English, German and Arabic. Moreover, her music is a kind of self-therapy, a means to better understand the world and get a sense of different realities. The ideas for many of her songs come to her in her sleep, when she processes new information and condenses memories of past experiences, conversations or impressions.
